When we think of superfoods, we usually think of blueberries, kale, sweet potatoes, acai berries, nuts, and fatty fish. These foods contain a wide variety of nutrients, including antioxidants, healthy fats, fiber, and phytochemicals, some of which boast abilities to prevent heart disease, diabetes, and counter digestive problems.
But there’s one superfood that often gets left off the list: wheatgrass. Wheatgrass is a variety of grass used in herbal medicine for nutritional and therapeutic purposes that is fast becoming one of the most widely used supplemental health foods.
It’s packed with iron, calcium, magnesium, amino acids, chlorophyll—known to rebuild & alkalize the blood, stimulate enzyme activity and purge the liver from toxins—and vitamins A, C, and E. Its biggest fans say it helps boost immunity and kill harmful bacteria in the digestive system.
This Superfood Is Not a Fad
Wheatgrass has been considered a big benefit to our bodies since Dr. Ann Wigmore introduced it at the Hippocrates Health Institute in Boston in the 1970s. Dr. Wigmore, or Dr. Ann as she prefers, learned about using plants, grasses, and herbs for natural healing from her grandmother, who used these to treat soldiers injured in World War I.
Dr. Wigmore went on to write The Wheatgrass Book, documenting her own inspiring story as she transformed from a sickly ill woman to a healthy vibrant one.
The Garden of Flavor Wheatgrass Tradition
Carrying on Dr. Ann’s research and tradition, Garden of Flavor juices certified organic wheatgrass grown at Wegman’s Organic Farm in Canandaigua, NY. Our Grasshopper and Wheatgrass/Pineapple Energy Elixir both feature wheatgrass, because we feel the juice is the easiest and most effective way for our bodies to use the nutrients found within.
Of course, you can also juice wheatgrass at home. If you do, we prefer the Super Angel Stainless Steel Juicer. While it may be costly at $1,500, it’s well worth the price. This particular juicer doesn’t heat the juice, which is important when working to retain all the nutrients your body needs.
We also cold press our wheatgrass juices—well, all of our juices—because those nutrients are so very important. Throughout our entire process, from pressing to bottling to shipping, the juice never reaches temperatures above forty degrees. This means every Garden of Flavor juice you drink is still packed with all the vitamins and nutrients found in the fresh veggies, fruits, nuts, and wheatgrass that we press.
Some wheatgrass juices also contain gluten, but the Garden of Flavor juices do not. We don’t use any of the wheat berry in our juices, so your experience will be a healthy one, even if you have a gluten allergy or intolerance.
